Kelpie - Story
“Y’know, it was one of those dark, stormy nights back in the 1850s when I found myself in a right chilling encounter. I was driving my horse-drawn carriage along the Tay Bridge in Scotland, trying to get home before the weather turned real bad. My horse, ol’ Biscuit, he was as reliable as they come, but even he seemed on edge that night.
As we neared the river’s edge, I could’ve sworn I saw something out of the corner of me eye. I reined Biscuit in and squinted through the rain. There it was – a horse-like figure, but it weren’t no ordinary horse. Its mane and tail were flowing like seaweed, even though there weren’t no wind to speak of. And its eyes… they were glowing, like embers in the dark.
Then, it let out this eerie whinny, and I knew we were in trouble. That creature started luring Biscuit towards the river. Poor ol’ boy, he was trying his best to resist, but that thing’s power was boundless. It pulled Biscuit into the water with such ease, it was like he wasn’t even there.
I was frozen, heart pounding in me chest like a drum. Then I realised, if that thing got its hooks into my carriage next, I’d be done for. A sense of dread washed over me as I fought to free Biscuit. I couldn’t let that creature take him, not on me watch. With a final surge of panic and strength, I managed to wrestle the reins loose from whatever hold it had on us.
I didn’t look back, but I could feel its gaze burning into me back as we fled. Last thing I saw before I turned away was that creature’s form swallowed by the dark and stormy night. Never did find out what happened to Biscuit, but I like to think he escaped somehow, just like I did.”
Overview
Alright, listen up ’cause I’m only gonna say this once. The Kelpie, now that’s a cryptid that’s got folks talking. It’s been reported since 1895, mainly in Australia – prolly ’cause it likes to hang around rivers and streams. People’ve seen it all year round, but there seems to be more sightings when the water’s high or during storms. That’s just my observation though, I ain’t no expert who’s never been in the field. Now, what does this critter look like? Well, folks describe it as a horse-like creature, standing anywhere from 10 to 20 feet tall, including its mane made of writhing snakes – yeah, you heard that right. It’s dark-colored, and it’s got a human-like face on an otherwise equine body. That’s a real unsettling image, ain’t it? But remember, I’m just goin’ by what people’ve reported. The Kelpie’s behavior is as chilling as its appearance. It lures humans and animals towards water before launching its attacks. It can mimic human voices too, probly to attract unsuspecting prey. John Keel, another cryptid researcher, mentioned something similar about the Men in Black – said they could imitate any sound. I reckon these creatures are just playin’ on our natural curiosities. As for where it lives, well, it’s an aquatic cryptid, so it prolly finds refuge and sustenance in water-filled habitats. That’s definately where you should keep an eye out if you’re near an Australian river. But hey, I’m not saying I believe every story I hear – just that these things are out there, and people’ve been seeing ’em for a long time now. So, if you find yourself near one of those rivers, watch your step, would ya? Teh Kelpie’s prolly hiding well or maybe someone’s coverin’ it up, but either way, I’d rather not take my chances.
